About our class
About Mrs. Baker: I contemplated life while I thru-hiked the Appalachian trail with my husband in 2002, and I decided that teaching was the job for me! (When you hike 2000 miles from Georgia to Maine, you get a lot of time to consider what you want to do with your life!) I believe in working hard, and playing hard! I have my Bachelor's degree in History from Notre Dame College, and my Master's degree in Education from the University of New Hampshire. I am currently a seventh grade teacher at Ross A. Lurgio Middle School, and I love the extraordinary things that happen with my class everyday! I believe that middle-schoolers are awesome, and utterly unique, often a walking contradiction. They are independent thinkers, and dependent learners, and have a natural inclination to question, that we will take full advantage of in our time together!
About our class: In our class, we will sing, act, debate, question and interact with each other to make sense of our learning.
I believe that learning is not a spectator sport! We will use music (yes, we will sing!), video, reading, writing, technology,
magazines, textbooks, primary sources, the indoors, the outdoors, group work, partner work, and alone time to synthesize and apply what we are learning to the bigger questions and the world around us.
This year, I hope we will take risks, make mistakes, make connections, ask questions, form opinions, argue with each other, cheer for each other and commiserate with one another as we all learn together. Work hard, and play hard! I wish you all very happy trails as we go!
